On November 22, 2024, Emily Calandrelli also known as the Space Gal etched her name into the stars by becoming the 100th woman in space, launching aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. Emily is more than just a space traveler — she’s an MIT-trained aerospace engineer, a science communicator, and a powerful voice for women in STEM. Due to her extensive study in science and engineering with a focus of aerospace, she was given the name “SPACE GAL”.✨
Emily hosts Netflix’s “Emily’s Wonder Lab,” a show that brings the wonders of science into homes and classrooms, sparking curiosity in young minds. She’s also the author of the “Ada Lace Adventures” children’s book series, one of which made its way to the International Space Station, read aloud in orbit!
In recognition of her impactful work in science outreach and education, Emily was awarded the Douglas S. Morrow Public Outreach Award in 2025 by the Space Foundation, an honor reserved for those who ignite public interest in space.
From her roots in West Virginia to the edge of space, Emily’s journey is a beacon of inspiration. She continues to prove that science is for everyone — especially young girls dreaming big.
Keep reaching for the stars — just like Emily. 🌟
